Blue Sky Trust is a registered charity
Our story began in London, when our patron, Dr. Patrick Dixon, was deeply moved by the heartbreaking scenes of young men dying from AIDS in the 1980s. He was shocked to see that these individuals were often isolated, without the comfort of their families, and that hospital staff were afraid to care for them. If you’ve seen the Channel 4 series It’s a Sin, you’ll recognize these powerful moments.
Driven by compassion, Patrick spearheaded a global movement of organisations, called ACET, who were committed to responding to the HIV/AIDS crisis with empathy and care.
In 1992, Blue Sky Trust was founded as part of this movement. Over the years, as the landscape of HIV has evolved, so too has our work. In the early days, much of our support focused on people in their final moments—sitting by their bedside, assisting with practical tasks like shopping, or offering lifts. Today, our services have adapted to meet the changing needs of those living with HIV. We focus on connecting and empowering people to live well with HIV and overcome HIV stigma.
In 2001, we broadened our work to HIV prevention by setting up a relationship and sex education program aimed at equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to develop and maintain healthy relationships.
We have earned a reputation for being a safe and confidential organisation which pioneers innovative services in response to local need.
Our vision is a society where:
people living with HIV experience happy, healthy and prosperous lives, free from stigma and discrimination
young people are equipped with the knowledge, information and skills to enjoy safe relationships and reach their full potential.
“Blue Sky Trust is an amazing place – it’s the people that make Blue Sky Trust…they made it a home…they go the extra mile to help their members” - Becky -
